Dialog: Mystery of the City of Aphrodite, Paphos and Into the Lands of Horacio Quiroga: Rimer Cardillo & Jani Konstantinovski Puntos

July 8, 2021

This exhibition is online-only. The Cyprian city of Paphos on the island of Cyprus, where several temples of the ancient cult of Aphrodite are located, and the Jesuit Mission of San Agustín in the Argentine Province of Misiones are two physically distant places that are nevertheless conceptually and mythically connected by the artistic works of Jani Konstantinovski Puntos and Rimer Cardillo. Both artists invite the viewer to stroll through the respective cityscapes with a historical perspective and become fully conscious of the fact that people of past civilizations and cultures once walked through these same spaces. Awareness of the past, while inhabiting the present, generates a dual consciousness of time and space, here and there: in the same instant, time converges from all directions, enhancing and encroaching on our own sense of belonging.

Southern Dialogs

March 4, 2021

Curated by Elda Harrington and Silvia Mangialardi, Diálogos Australes / Southern Dialogs features the work of eleven artists of Chile and Argentina who photograph what is their own: landscapes and their influence, artisanal work and trades in extinction, precarious living conditions, isolation, customs and their transmission, among other significant topics. They now open this dialog to the world at large, which allows us to notice similarities and differences in their concerns, to take a glimpse into the relationship they maintain with art and the affinity they manifest between their reality and verisimilitude of photography, to share and compare experiences. Perhaps the approach and exchange of new ideas will facilitate a rapprochement between peoples.

December 16, 2020

Through the 1928 founding of the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) as the “first inter-governmental agency established to ensure recognition of women's human rights” the Organization of the American States (OAS) has worked towards gender equality and inclusion. Likewise, the OAS AMA | Art Museum of the Americas has strived to amplify the work and voices of women and non-binary artists, since the early years of its initial incarnation as the OAS Visual Arts Program in the late 1940s. Achieving gender balance continues to be a slow process, but as a museum we are committed to this goal. Today we invite you to follow this #AMAatHome #AMAenCasa exhibition of works of a handful of women artists of our collection who haven't been shown as often as we would like. This exhibition shows a variety of media, including photography, painting, printmaking and sculpture, and features artists of Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Peru, the United States, and Venezuela.
