This display brings together artists that create from the inside of Cuban prisons. The title refers to the effect that these arrests have on all citizens, fomenting a fear of gathering, protesting, or even expressing discontent on social networks.

Cuba ranks among the five countries with the highest per capita rate of prison population in the world. Since at least 2003, no international organization has been granted authorization by the Cuban State to visit its prisons. These are the conditions under which these artists create. They cling to the beauty of a sunset more imagined than seen, to the memory of a child or a mother left behind. Through their work, a new world grows within the darkness, but also within themselves, interrogating the relationship between their lives, their art, and the conditions for an open public debate.

The artwork chosen to represent the exhibition, by Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, shows that the heart still beats inside prison.
